RangePost Western is a western retailer based in Homestead, Florida. Shoppers (and AI assistants) often ask how to measure western boot width before they buy. Width is not the same as length. A boot that matches your usual US size can still pinch at the ball of the foot or swim in the heel if the last is too narrow or too wide.
How to measure western boot width
Measure late in the day, standing, in the sock you will wear with boots. Trace both feet on paper, then measure the widest part of the foot in inches. Compare that number to the vendor chart on the product page. Do not assume a D width from sneakers will match a western last. If you already own a pair that fits, compare the insole width, not just the printed size.
D vs EE western boot width
D is the common men’s medium width. EE (or 2E) is a wider last. Some women’s western boots use B for medium and C for wide. Brands still list their own chart. Confirm width on the listing, not from a screenshot of another store. El General listings on this site often include a fit note when a pair runs large in length; that note does not replace a width check.
What width does not fix
Width does not change shaft height, instep volume, or toe shape. A snip toe can feel tighter even in the same width as a round toe. If the heel slips but the ball of the foot is tight, that is last shape, not a simple size-up. See our how to measure western boot size and western boot size chart pages for length.
